“If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.” 1 Corinthians 15:19

Whenever I read this Word of God, I can’t help but shake my head at the striking example of hypocrisy.

Throughout this dying world, millions of people believe that Jesus Christ is dead. They may think that He was a real, historical figure or they may think that He never existed. In either case, the hope that people attach to Him is viewed as empty and meaningless. It is seen only as a crutch to get weak people through life. As Karl Marx put it: “Religion…is the opium of the people.”

The Amazing Power of God’s Word

“By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” Hebrews 11:3

It is that time of year when we enjoy getting out in nature and looking at the beauty of God’s creation.

Family trips taken to national or state parks often become treasured memories. We recall the wondrous vistas from a mountain-top or even just a bluff, the grandeur of the vastness of the sea, the mysteries of a cave, or the beauty of canyon formations.

Even watching the sun set over a lake can call forth a confession of faith from the child of God who marvels at how God called all this forth with the power of His Word.

Of course, visits to publicly-run parks may also mean that we encounter the evolutionist’s view on the origins of the universe. What evolutionists see as a chance happening—that supposedly took place with countless millions of precisely accurate accidents occurring at the exactly necessary moments so that the world came into existence with all its wonders—we creationists see and know as the wonderful works of God!

The nature scenes which cause us to marvel as we make our way on our summer vacation trips are evidence of the majesty and power of God. With the power of His Word He called things as if they were—and indeed they were there in all their complexity, in all their beauty!

Hand-Picked

It has happened to most of us. The anticipation is rising. The line you are standing in is dwindling. Who will be next? Will I get picked at all? Ah, those moments on the playground before a recess game begins—a possible knock to the self-esteem if ever there was one!

I believe the way students choose each other for teammates has some lessons for us. It is not surprising that the biggest and fastest are often the first to be picked. If strength and size and speed are the advantage, why not go with it?

Worldviews in Conflict

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you…” 1 Peter 3:15

“Whoever is not with me is against me” (Matthew 12:30a)

Because God is our Creator, because Christ is our Savior, and because as Christians we are new creations by the Holy Spirit, our worldview is dominated by God. There is no reason to budge even an inch from this.

God-Pleasing Fatherhood

What is fatherhood? What does it mean to be a father? Those interested in learning the meaning of this important role in life would be well advised not to study the current examples of the unbelieving world.

By observing the practice of a growing number of men, we might be led to think that fatherhood involves no more than biologically fathering children. After fathering a child, heartless self-serving men cut and run, leaving mother and child to fend for themselves. Other proud and arrogant men think they are doing society a favor by donating to a sperm bank (believing that they are improving the gene pool).

Holy Scripture has long genealogical lists of so-and-so begetting so-and-so, but these lists are not recorded and preserved in order to teach that fatherhood involves only the begetting of children!

Introduction To Worldviews

“I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14)

In articles so far we’ve seen that there is no neutral ground between the Christian and the non-Christian. This means that we will defend Christianity as a whole and complete system, and we will set it against any other (2 Corinthians 10:5).

But what exactly is a worldview?

A worldview is a network of presuppositions or foundational commitments that a person has. These commitments are not tested by natural science. They guide one’s thinking and hold the highest authority in one’s life. If one’s core presuppositions were to change, then one’s whole view of life would change with it.
