Updates from congregations around the Church of the Lutheran Confession
Greetings from the saints of Prince of Peace.
During Jesus’ Passover celebration on Maundy Thursday, He spoke these words to His disciples: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27). Jesus gave His peace, as only He can give, to His disciples shortly before His arrest and crucifixion. This peace was sorely needed by His disciples as they went through what was likely the most tumultuous three days of their lives. The next day held an arrest, a jury-rigged trial or two, and a death. Where was the peace in that? The disciples could have found it in Jesus’ prediction of all those events. Instead, they gave it up until Jesus Himself restored it with His resurrection appearances.
Jesus’ prediction and guarantee of His presence with His believers today can keep Christians in the peace of knowing that their sins are forgiven and that their God will see them through all of the expected and unexpected changes in their lives. What could give greater comfort than knowing that the unchanging God is seeing Christians through their ever-changing lives?
Changes at Prince of Peace include a renovated sanctuary, an expanded narthex, a remodeled fellowship area, a new pastor, the creation of a Board of Outreach, and the refreshing of several annual congregation-wide traditions.
Work began on renovating the sanctuary and expanding the narthex in the summer of 2022 and was completed in the fall of 2023. The remodel of the sanctuary added additional natural lighting and updated the ceilings, walls, floors, pews, lighting, and entrances. The narthex expansion added much-needed space for members to visit and converse. The revamped worship facility has proven to be a blessing for the congregation as it continues to preach the Gospel in Word and sacrament.
Remodeled fellowship area
Following the completion of the sanctuary renovation and narthex expansion, work began in earnest on the remodel of the fellowship area. Members were knocking out walls and tearing up floors as they prepared the space for new flooring, paint, cabinets, and lighting. The remodel was finished in the spring of 2026, just in time for Prince of Peace to host the ILC Tour Choir and then the Front Range Joint Mission Festival. Again, the space proved to be a blessing for the congregation as it hosted the singing and preaching of the good news of sins forgiven in Christ Jesus.
Expanded narthex
In the spring of 2025, Pastor Samuel Naumann was installed to preach and teach that same good news of peace through Jesus Christ on a regular basis. Although the man standing in the pulpit has changed, the message has remained the same.
Another recent development at Prince of Peace was the formation of a Board of Outreach. Remembering Jesus’ Great Commission to make disciples of all nations, the voters established a formal board in order to help inspire and motivate each member to be active in their personal ministry for their Savior, as well as to organize congregation-wide outreach efforts.
VBS at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church
Finally, Prince of Peace is in the process of reviewing and refreshing annual traditions such as the church picnic, the song service, VBS, and the Christmas Eve Children’s Service in order to assure that these cherished traditions are serving both members and visitors in the best way possible. A new annual tradition is Friendship Sunday, for which every member is encouraged to bring a friend to hear about the peace of God during a service and sermon curated for visitors.
As always, there is a lot going on in this world. There is a lot going on that could tempt Christians to give up the peace which Christ has given them. At Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, there is an emphasis on holding on to the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, for it holds up Christians when difficulties arise and they are tempted to despair. God’s peace grants confidence and security as the world changes back and forth, as it always does. So yes, there is a lot going on in the world and there always will be. However, there is also a lot going on at Prince of Peace to remind Christians that Jesus’ peace cannot be taken away, for He does not give as the world gives, but gives wholeheartedly, with the receiver’s best interest at heart, and with no take-backs.
