Jesus, The Conqueror Of Death

Please read John 20:1-31 in box below

On the wall in our fellowship hall hangs a portrait given in memory of Mabel Lenning, a child of God.

The artwork was produced by Roger Loveless, and is simply entitled, “My Redeemer Lives.” It captures the familiar scene that is a portion of the reading you just completed from the 20th chapter of the Gospel of John.Jesus, The Conqueror Of Death

The Apologetical Encounter

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”  (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)The Apologetical Encounter

Jesus, the Model Sufferer

So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink
the cup which My Father has given Me?” (John 18:11)

OK… raise your hand if you
like pain… anyone?

Who enjoys suffering… anyone?

It’s fair to say that human beings are averse to suffering. The moment a headache or sore muscle begins to bother… there is a good chance we reach for aspirin, ibuprofen, or some other pain killer.Jesus, the Model Sufferer

The Only Savior

Before the fall into sin there was no need for salvation. Adam and Eve already enjoyed perfect bliss and happiness in paradise. But since the fall and the consequent loss of paradise, restoration of perfect bliss and happiness (eternal salvation) is regained only through the One who was promised by the Father and who came from the Father to rescue mankind from its lost condition. The Only Savior

Christian Apologetics

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear…”  1 Peter 3:15

Logic

“I am not insane, most excellent Festus,” Paul replied.“What I am saying is true and reasonable.” Acts 26:25Christian Apologetics

The Uniformity of Nature

How would you respond to the following: “You Christians are so unscientific. Science and religion have nothing to do with each other because science is about facts, and religion is about faith.”

Remember, when defending the Christian faith we will always do an internal critique of the other person’s presuppositions. Because your opponent is not starting with God as the ultimate authority, there will and must be inconsistencies in what he says versus how he lives. These need to be brought to light.Christian Apologetics – Sixth in the Series

Christ — Our One Mediator

“Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said:
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. 6 “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You.Christ — Our One Mediator

Morality and Ethics

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 (NIV)

“If God is all-loving, why is there so much evil in the world?”

is a common enough question asked to a Christian. After all, people generally know that God is claimed to be ‘good,’ yet they do see bad things in this world (disease, hunger, war, death, and so on).Christian Apologetics

Jesus — Giver of the Holy Spirit

These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble. They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me. But these things I have told you, that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them. And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you. But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; Jesus — Giver of the Holy Spirit
