Apologetics — Should We Even Be Doing This?

“The Bible needs no defense.” “God’s Word will take care of itself. So who are we to think that our puny efforts and inadequate reasoning could help defend God’s almighty Word?” On the other hand, since God also promises to give us our daily bread, should I therefore say, “Since what God says will always come to pass, who am I to think that the Lord needs me to provide for my family?” Or even: “Why evangelize? Does God need me to preach His Word when He could have the rocks cry out if He so chose?” (Luke 19:40)Read More »Apologetics

The Apologetical Encounter

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”  (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)Read More »The Apologetical Encounter

Christian Apologetics

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear…”  1 Peter 3:15

The Uniformity of Nature

How would you respond to the following: “You Christians are so unscientific. Science and religion have nothing to do with each other because science is about facts, and religion is about faith.”

Remember, when defending the Christian faith we will always do an internal critique of the other person’s presuppositions. Because your opponent is not starting with God as the ultimate authority, there will and must be inconsistencies in what he says versus how he lives. These need to be brought to light.Read More »Christian Apologetics – Sixth in the Series

Morality and Ethics

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 (NIV)

“If God is all-loving, why is there so much evil in the world?”

is a common enough question asked to a Christian. After all, people generally know that God is claimed to be ‘good,’ yet they do see bad things in this world (disease, hunger, war, death, and so on).Read More »Christian Apologetics

Worldviews in Conflict

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you…” 1 Peter 3:15

“Whoever is not with me is against me” (Matthew 12:30a)

Because God is our Creator, because Christ is our Savior, and because as Christians we are new creations by the Holy Spirit, our worldview is dominated by God. There is no reason to budge even an inch from this.Read More »Worldviews in Conflict

Christian Apologetics – 3

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you…” 1 Peter 3:15

Introduction To Worldviews

“I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14)

In articles so far we’ve seen that there is no neutral ground between the Christian and the non-Christian. This means that we will defend Christianity as a whole and complete system, and we will set it against any other (2 Corinthians 10:5).

But what exactly is a worldview?

A worldview is a network of presuppositions or foundational commitments that a person has. These commitments are not tested by natural science. They guide one’s thinking and hold the highest authority in one’s life. If one’s core presuppositions were to change, then one’s whole view of life would change with it.Read More »Christian Apologetics – 3

The Myth of Neutrality

I was in a discussion with an atheist and we both realized that the conversation seemed to be going nowhere. I had my beliefs and he had his.

To further the conversation, he suggested that we should both become neutral to our respective beliefs as our starting point for finding the truth.Read More »Christian Apologetics

What it is and is not

The word apologetics comes from the Greek word apologia which means defense. Just as the Lutheran Reformers wrote the Apology to the Augsburg Confession to defend what they wrote in the Augsburg Confession, so the Christian’s calling includes defending his belief in God and His Word.  Even more so, the Lord wants His people to always be ready to do this important work.Read More »Christian Apologetics
